Southern province Minister Daniel Munkombwe says government will ensure that Zambians participate in the creation of wealth by making available favourable conditions for people to borrow for production purposes.
Mr Munkombwe observes with great concern that Zambia had been gripped with the syndrome of consumption without production.
Speaking when he featured on Siavonga’s radio Kariba ‘Head on Talk’ phone in radio programme where he was explaining government’s decision to remove fuel and maize subsidies, Mr Munkombwe explained that the concept of consumption without production is an expensive undertaking.
He said because of getting used to being subsidized by government some people want to use other schemes to blackmail government.
Mr Munkombwe said the mines wanted to lay off about 2,000 people because they claimed the cost of doing business was high after removing the fuel subsidies because they were benefiting from the arrangement.
He also said the cost of doing business was high everywhere in the world adding that people have to live with the reality, move on and stop politicking because people will never eat politics.
Mr Munkombwe is today expected to address heads of government departments in Siavonga before meetings Chiefs Simamba and Sinadambwe.
