Safety of workers critical to national development- Phiri
Lusaka, May 18, ZANIS —– Chilanga District Commissioner Patrick Phiri says safety of workers is critical to national development.
Meanwhile Lafarge Cement Acting Managing Director Chrisse Moleseni said it has not been easy for the company to attain such a milestone as several changes had to be implemented.
Mr. Phiri said it is unusual for a company to achieve the loss free record in an industry such as Chilanga who are the major manufacturers of cement in Zambia and across the country.
He said such achievement comes from strict adherence to health and safety management standards and principles.
ZANIS reports that the District Commissioner said this when he officiating at Lafarge Cement’s the ten years anniversary of No Loss Time Injury (LTI) at its Chilanga plant in Lusaka yesterday,
He observed that having the correct attitude and behavior is important in maintaining and sustaining such an achievement.
He further thanked the company for the contribution it has been making in building the country through its product.
The District commissioner also noted that it is common sense that demand for the product has increased due to the good polices by the patriotic Front government that favors infrastructure development among others.
Mr. Phiri however implored the company to continue adhering to health and safety management standards and principles even as they position themselves to meet the increased demand of the product.

Mrs. Moleseni said there are plants in the world with better facilities but barely a day’s passes without recording an accident or loss of time due to accidents.
She said the ten years anniversary of No Loss Time Injury (LTI) is a collective achievement as every worker played an activities role in ensuring that safety precautions where adhered to.
She said Lafarge is committed to the health of its workers as demonstrated in its principles and standards on health.
Mrs. Moleseni observed that it is because of everyone’s support and positive attitude and behavior towards work that can make a difference in national development.
