—–Western Province Young Women Christian Association (YMCA) Regional Coordinator, Sandra Maputa, says there is an increase in Gender Based Violence (GBV) cases in the province this year.

Mrs Maputa also said cases of child neglect and wife battering were still dominant in Western Province.

She told ZANIS in Mongu today that YMCA has so far recorded 277 cases of gender based violence in two districts of the Provinc,e namely Mongu and Kaoma, since January this year.

She said the organization has since introduced a number of programmes to sensitize and train people on gender based violence in communities.

She added that issues of withdrawing gender based violence cases by women has continued to be a challenge as women still remain dependant on their husbands to survive.

Mrs Maputa has since called on women to report all cases of violence as keeping quiet is what is leading to the increase in women being murdered.
