Northern minister orders contractor to speed up works
Mbala, May14, ZANIS———- Northern Province Minister Obius Chisala has directed a Chinese contractor working on the Mbala-Nakonde road to speed works on the project.
Mr Chisala who inspected the road yesterday, expressed disappointment with the pace at which China CAMC Engineering Company is constructing the road.
He observed that detour that the contractor has made is in a bad state and is not fit for use by motorists and the travelling public at large.
Mr Chisala noted that government is eager to develop the road network in Northern province and the Mbala-Nakonde road is no exception.
The Minister has since urged China CAMC Engineering Company and Bari Zambia Consulting firm to make sure quality work is done on the road project.
Mr Chisala further advised the company to comply with country’s labour laws when recruiting local people for jobs on the road project.
And Bari Zambia Company Consultant Laban Kampamba said the upgrading of 18 kilometre to bituminous standard Mbala-Nakonde road is expected to be completed in September this year.
He said that China CAMC Engineering Company has so far engaged 120 workers and the road construction will be done to high quality.
Mr Kampamba however said the biggest challenge to the speedy progress in the construction of Mbala-Nakonde road is the availability of funds which the Chinese Contractor needs to source from outside the country.
