World Vision donates water supply equipments

Chipata, May 13, ZANIS ——– World Vision has donated a Dip tank and a mechanised borehole to villagers in Chief Madzimawe’s area in Chipata district in Eastern province.

Making the donation, World Vision Field Operations Manager, Dimuna Mwanza said her organisation is committed to improving the wellbeing of the people by meeting their basic needs.

Mrs Mwanza explained that access to safe and clean drinking water is one of the most important basic needs that people especially in rural areas must be provided with.

She noted that World Vision is concerned with many challenges that hinder the rural communities to have access to clean and safe water.

She added that it is for this reason that her organisation has identified the provision of safe water to be priority if Zambia is to meet the Millenium Development Goal (MDGs) on water and sanitation by
2015.

And in receiving the donation, Chipata District Commissioner Kalunga Zulu thanked World Vision for its continued support in supplementing government’s effort in improving water and sanitation.

Mr Zulu said this in a speech read for him by the District Administration Officer Mekelani Banda.

He said the provision of clean and safe drinking water has come at a right time when government has intensified its efforts to provide sustainable and equitable water supply to meet the basic needs of the people.

He explained that the provision of piped water has been identified to be key in the fight against water born diseases.

Mr Zulu said in the past the area has experienced many deaths related to water borne as the source of water was not safe.

He said it is for this reason that with the mechanised borehole which will supply piped water, cases of water borne disease are likely to reduce among the community.

Mr Zulu noted that the dip tank will help in reducing animal diseases such as East Cost Fever which is common in the area.

He also stated that this will go a long way in contributing to the country’s progress in meeting the country’s MDGs by 2015.

And Chief Madizmawe thanked World Vision for taking development to his area.

Chief Madzimawe said the community in his chiefdom understands and knows the importance of development therefore will take good care of the items that have been donated to them.
