RB strategy is to have MMd swallowed up by UPND. I confirmed this when The District Chairlady from Northwestern told me that all Northwestern supporters are moving to UPND. Those that don’t like UPND will go to PF, or quit active politics for the time being. The media silence from ordinary members of MMD is deafening, and yet they are all complaining to each other about what is going on. RB has always wanted an alliance of sorts with HH even when he was Party President, it was shot down.
Now that Nevers is literally dependent on RB for advice and money, and there are no defenders left in MMD to ensure that RB’s dream isn’t realised, it will surely happen, it is just a matter of time. MMD cadres now have the option of either joining UPND, PF or quitting active politics. We shall see a strong shift in those three directions, no one is talking about NAREP at all, Chipimo is clearly out of his league. Once again, I stress the demise of MMD started with the monoplosing of MMD finances by the Party Presidents, and wamuyayaya type of politics – this is really what is causing this mess. For any political party to graduate to a higher level of politics, they need to go back to their original constitutions, ensure party funds are not controlled solely by the Party President and ensure that conventions are free and fair. Once this happens, they will mature into formidable democratic parties.
