Opposition People’s Party president Mike Mulongoti has said his party will not participate in the forthcoming Feira constituency parliamentary by-elections scheduled for June 20, 2013.
Mr. Mulongoti said his party was currently establishing grassroots structures in order to consolidate it before beginning to participate in elections.
He told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that People’s Party was a realistic party which was serious with its vision of liberating the Zambian people.
Mr. Mulongoti however said his party will not prevent any candidate who would want to stand on its ticket in any by-election in the country.
He said people, who want to associate themselves with the People’s Party, were welcome adding that the newly created party will support such people because it was for all Zambians.
And opposition National Revolutionary Party (NRP) president Cosmo Mumba today told ZANIS that his party will on Sunday hold a national executive committee meeting to decide whether to participate during the forthcoming Feira parliamentary by-elections or not.
Dr. Mumba said the meeting will take place at Fairmount Hotel in Livingstone where a lot of issues, including whether to field a candidate during the Feira by election or not, will be discussed.
He also disclosed that his party was currently preparing for 2016 presidential and parliamentary bye-elections.
“I cannot make decisions on my own, but I can do so after NEC has resolved as a team. So on Sunday, the highest body will decide in Livingstone on a number of issues affecting the party,” Dr. Mumba said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mumba has implored Zambians to support the Patriotic Front (PF) administration regardless of their political affiliations.
He said it was important that all Zambians help to develop the country hence the need to support the ruling party.
He said the people of Zambia were interested in having food security and not politicking.
