Police in Lusaka have arrested a man for allegedly murdering his wife.
Police Spokesperson Elizabeth Kanjela said on February 4 this year, the suspect, who has been identified as Fasten Phiri, reported to Chunga Police that his wife Zango Phiri, 24, was missing.
Ms. Kanjela said Fasten was later evicted from his house in Chunga house on March 26 this year, and relocated to Katete with his children.
She said on April 30 this year, the new tenant at the Chunga residence discovered that a dog had unearthed a human hand from a shallow grave at the backyard and reported the matter to police.
She explained that the body was exhumed and it was discovered that it was of Zango’s, who had been reported missing in February by her husband.
Ms. Kanjela said Fasten was then apprehended by Police from Katete and is currently in police custody, while police await postmortem results.
And police in Northern Province have apprehended a 27 year old woman for allegedly causing the death of a three month old baby.
It is alleged that on April 27 this year, the suspect only identified as Nancy attempted to beat up her 11 year old neighbour’s child on allegations that she had beaten her child.
Ms. Kanjela said in the process of the struggle, the three month old baby that was on the 11 year old’s back fell to the ground and was later pronounced dead a Kasama General Hospital.
The suspect has been remanded in custody as police await postmortem results.
And Ms. Kanjela has disclosed that two people died on the spot in a road traffic accident in Lusaka yesterday.
She said the accident happened at around 16:30 hours along the Great East Road.
She said the accident occurred when a Toyota Hiace registration number ALH 8315 had its rear left tyre burst, causing the vehicle to overturn.
Ms. Kanjela said the two passengers, who were on board, died on the spot while the driver identified as Mike Phiri, together with six other passengers sustained injuries and are admitted to Chongwe district hospital.
The bodies of the deceased are lying in Chongwe District Hospital mortuary awaiting identification and postmortem.
And a 30 year old man died on the spot after being hit by a vehicle along Kafue Road in Lusaka around 21:10 hours yesterday.
Ms. Kanjela said the accident happened when a Toyota Hiace Registration Number ABX 3698 hit a pedestrian who was trying to cross the road.
The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Samuel Mulonda aged 29, of house number 26, in Woodlands while the deceased has been identified as Gift Chishimba of Makeni.
She said the body of the deceased is lying in the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary, while the driver has been arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
