A private training institute called Zambian College of Open Learning (ZAMCOL) has extended operations to Chinsali district in Muchinga province.
The college which has its national headquarters in Solwezi will be opened before the end of this month.
This will be the first private training institute to be established in Muchinga Province since its creation through a presidential decree of 2011.
ZAMCOL provincial coordinator Friday Simuyemba says the college has opened its branch in Muchinga Province in order to create an opportunity for tertiary education for the local people and surrounding areas.
Mr. Simuyemba said residents should be able to utilize the opportunity that has been presented to them adding that the purpose of this move is to support government policies in the education sector.
He said this in an interview with Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Chinsali today.
Mr. Simuyemba said the college will not only benefit school leavers but also primary teachers to upgrade themselves.
Mr. Simuyemba disclosed that the response from the public has been overwhelming and that the college has so far received over 150 applications which he said is a good start.
He however noted that the college has encountered various challenges of which among others included the medium of advertising following the local Radio station being off air.
The college management plans to turn it into a university in the future.
