Govt will assist Mandevu marketers whose shops were gutted – Kapata
Lusaka, April 2, ZANIS…Mandevu area Member of Parliament (MP) Jean Kapata has assured marketers at Mandevu market in Lusaka that Government will ensure that traders whose shops were gutted by an inferno over the weekend are assisted.
Ms Kapata, who is also Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Community Development Mother and Child Health said described the situation where property worth million of Kwacha was burnt as sad.
She was speaking today when she and her entourage which included Deputy Minister in the office of the Vice President paid an impromptu inspection of the gutted market.
Ms. Kapata said Government will find ways on how best to assist the affected traders because it was their only source of income.
She, however, warned that those thinking of cheating that they are also victims of the inferno which damaged the market will not be spared.
Ms. Kapata said only genuine victims will be assisted by Government and not any masquerades hoping to take an advantage of the situation.
And Deputy Minister at the office of the Vice President Harry Kalaba said the Patriotic Front Government is determined to alleviating those involved in calamities in the nation.
Mr Kabala promised the marketers that the office of the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unity(DMMU) will soon be getting back to access the disaster at Mandevu market and see how best to come to their rescue.
He also said those affected should work closely with constituency officials in identifying real victims adding that what happened at the market does not please Government in any way.
