Kitwe DC Kamanga bemoans negative impact of investment on the environment
Kitwe , March 28, 2013, ZANIS —- Kitwe District commissioner Elias Kamanga has expressed concern over the negative environmental impact being made by some investments in the district.
Mr. Kamanga says most investments have impacted negatively on the health of the people while some tend to displace local people without them receiving sufficient compensation to enable them continue with their normal lives.
He said government will from now onwards ensure that all investments recorded in the country fully benefit the local people.
ZANIS reports that the District Commissioner was speaking in Kitwe yesterday when he officiated at a lands stakeholders workshop organized by Kitwe District Land Alliance (KDLA).
He added that there was need to balance between investment and the rights of the poor Zambians who are usually affected.
And speaking earlier, Kitwe Land alliance board chairperson, Mpenza Mwanza said land must not be used as a campaign tool because that gives rise to illegal settlements.
Ms Mpenza also challenged the council to begin to quickly resolve land disputes that are raised by the members of public through the Zambia Land Alliance.
She added that the NGO will continue to advocate for fair land policies and laws that will benefit all Zambians in land distribution.
