—The Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) in Muchinga Province is appealing to the government through the Ministry of Health to quickly consider purchasing an ambulance for Nakonde district health centre.
ZCTU Regional Coordinator, Nondo Kasanda, says acquiring an ambulance for Nakonde health centre would save more lives in the area.
Mr Kasanda said in a walk in interview with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Nakonde today that Nakonde health centre has been operating without an ambulance for over two years now.
Mr Kasanda said the only ambulance at the health centre broke down over two years ago.
He said that lack of an ambulance at the health institution has affected service delivery, hence the need for government to quickly consider purchasing an ambulance for Nakonde health centre.
Mr Kasanda said workers at the institution are finding it difficult to work according to people’s expectations more especially when there are emergency cases that require being referred to big hospitals.
He observed that if the situation goes unchecked it is likely to result in loss of many lives in the area.
Meanwhile, Mr Kasanda has thanked government for sending more health workers to Nakonde district.
