A mob of Lusaka’s Chainda area has removed an eye of a man of unidentified house number of the same compound.
Police spokesperson Elizabeth Kanjela said Goodward Zulu of an unknown house number of Lusaka’s Chainda compound had his eye completely removed and was injured by a mob on March,24 ,2013 between 17:00hours and 22:30hours in the same compound.
She said officers from Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe police station received a report from members of the public that there was commotion at house number 23/03 in Chainda compound.
“This happened when word went round that Anastasia Phiri aged 70 of the above resident who passed away on March 23, 2013 in levy Mwanawasa general hospital was missing from the mortuary and that they suspected that she had gone back to her house in form of a pig and was hidden in the house by the relatives, it is also believed that the deceased together with her 80 year old husband were practicing witchcraft hence that caused the mob to surround the yard, started stoning the house and later set two sofas ablaze,” Kanjela said.
One of the relative to the deceased known as Goodward Zulu a relative to the late was also injured and had one eye completely removed.
She said the victim is admitted to Mwanawasa general hospital where he is being treated.
“We would want to confirm that the situation is now back to normal and the deceased has been buried at leopards hill cemetery, we are concerned with the way people are ill-treating elderly people and would want to advice members of the public to deceit from the use of mob justice,” she urged.
And in Eastern Province, police are investigating a matter in which a 20 year old grade 12 pupil of Katete day high school was murdered by unknown persons.
Kanjela said the incident occurred on March, 23, 2013 around 18:00 hours in Katete in the bush near the school.
She said the deceased met her fate when she was going for prep in the company of two other pupils.
“They were chased by a man who managed to get hold of one while the others managed to escape by the time the report reached the police the suspect had already run away and the victim was found unconscious with blood oozing from her private parts, she was rushed to St Francis mission hospital where she was pronounced dead and her body is lying in the mortuary awaiting post-mortem,” Kanjela said.
