A 27 year old woman of Nakonde district of Muchinga Province died on the spot after being hit by a motor vehicle along the Great North Road.
Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Remmy Kajoba has confirmed the accident in an interview with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Nakonde today.
Mr. Kajoba said that the accident happened yesterday in the morning around 06:00 hours.
Mr. Kajoba identified the deceased as Florence Mulenga of Ntindi Township in Chieftainess Nawaitwika’s area in Nakonde district.
Mr. Kajoba explained that the deceased met her fate as she was crossing the great north road near Barclays Bank in Nakonde.
He added that the woman who was an air time vendor was hit by unregistered Toyota corolla which was coming from the northern direction killing her on the spot.
Mr. Kajoba said the body of the deceased is currently lying at Nakonde health centre mortuary awaiting a post mortem.
Mr Kajoba added that the driver of the vehicle identified as Benson Siwakwi, 30, also of Ntindi Township has since been arrested and is currently detained at Nakonde police station and will appear in court soon.
