Government has commended health workers and co-operating partners in Kabompo district for recording a Tuberculosis-TB cure rate of 87.5 per cent beating the national target of 85 per cent.

District Commissioner, Dennis Kanyakula made the commendation when he officiated at the World TB day commemorations held at Chikata primary school near Kabompo today.

Mr. Kanyakula said the district had managed to beat the national TB cure target because of the spirit of love being exhibited between the health workers and other stakeholders in the community.

He said that last year Kabompo district diagnosed and fully treated 184 TB patients of which 94 were males and 90 females .

He added that out of the total number 41 were HIV positive which implied that TB and HIV/AIDS were co-related scourges that required community concerted efforts to reduce or eradicate it completely.

The district commissioner said that the PF government has put in place many interventions in the fight against TB and HIV infections in the country.

Mr Kanyakula appealed to the people to seek medical attention as soon as they detect TB symptoms.
