Government has released KR 300, 000 for the clearing of land on which the construction of the new Mongu ultra modern stadium will be built.
Western Province Permanent Secretary Emmanuel Mwamba confirmed the development in Mongu today when he graced the site clearing ceremony.
Mr Mwamba said the people of Western Province will benefit a great deal during and after the construction of the stadium stating that about 100 locals have already been directly engaged in the first phase of construction.
He said other benefits will include the acquiring of life skills and the expanded hospitality industry as the stadium will also host international games once completed.
The PS pointed out that the PF government is fulfilling its campaign promises of bringing inclusive development to the whole country.
Mr. Mwamba thanked the Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) for playing an important role and contributing positively towards the construction of the stadium which will have a sitting capacity of 2000 people.
And giving a vote of thanks, Mongu Mayor Dories Kaumba said the enthusiasm shown by the PF government to construct the stadium is an indication that it has the plight of the people of Western Province at heart.
President Michael Sata last year directed Sports and Youth development Minister Chishimba Kambwili to ensure that a Modern Stadium is constructed in Mongu as part of the campaign promises he made to the people of the area during the 2011 tripartite elections.
During the International Women’s Day Commemoration for this year, Kambwili assured the people of Western Province that the construction of the stadium will commence on the 15th of April, 2013.
