Mongu water risks contamination as PS orders evictions
Mongu, 20 March, 2013, ZANIS — Government has directed the Mongu Municipal Council to evict people residing near the Western Water and Sewerage Company boreholes.
The directive has been issued by Western Province Permanent Secretary Emmanuel Mwamba when he inspected the boreholes this morning.
Mr. Mwamba tasked the council to normalise the situation adding that government was obliged to provide safe and clean water to the public hence allowing people to live near boreholes threatened public health.
Earlier, Mongu Town Clerk Enock Kandingwa urged the water utility company to secure the boreholes once people are removed.
And one of the affected people in the area Walubita Muletambo charged that he will continue to dialogue over his plot arguing it was on traditional land where the council had no powers of jurisdiction.
