-Nakonde District Commissioner (DC) James Singoyi has warned members of the public trading at Nakonde border to stop engaging into illicit activities.
Mr. Singoyi said it was unfortunate that most men and women travelling to Nakonde for business purposes ended up exposing themselves to activities that endangered their lives.
He said it was unfortunate to see young girls and women lining up at Nakonde Dry Port and on the streets in the night with intent to sell sex to truck drivers whose HIV statuses they did not know.
He told ZANIS that businessmen and women should only focus on their businesses when they go to Nakonde.
Mr. Singoyi said people should remember that HIV/AIDS was real and should therefore avoid engaging into casual sex that increases their chances of contracting the virus.
He said his office has in the recent past received reports of human trafficking through Kanyala to Sasanyenge border post where young girls were being trafficked for prostitution in other countries.
He however noted that police and other law enforcement agencies in the district were working tirelessly to ensure that those trading into prostitution at the dry port and in the Streets were prosecuted because prostitution was illegal under the Zambian laws.
The District Commissioner said the local council, police and the Immigration Department in the district have however been carrying out sensitization programmes on the dangers of illicit activities.
Mr. Singoyi since urged young girls and women in the district to belong to various youth and women clubs in order to improve their lives.
