Mungwi readily prepared for women’s day

 

Mungwi, March 7, ZANIS ——– Various activities have been lined for tomorrow’s International Women’s Day in Mungwi.

Community Development Officer in Charge of Gender, Austin Chizonde said women from different organisations are expected to meet for prayers today at Pentecostal Assemblies of God (PAOG) church.

 

Mr Chizonde said the prayer service has been hosted to pray for women for their recognition in society.

 

He said tomorrows’ event will include a match-past from Ilamfya to the main arena at Natasha Private School.

 

Mr Chizonde further said women from various government departments and those from the teaching fraternity will conduct drama and sketches to depict this year’s International Women’s Day under the theme, “The Gender Agenda; making momentum”.

 

He said the afternoon, will be charactrised by sports activities which will include both women and men football.

 

In another development, Mungwi District Commissioner Joyce Chanda has today given-out 39 bicycles to Area Coordinating Committees (ACCs) under the Social Welfare department.

 

Speaking during the hand-over of the bicycles to representatives from all the 13 wards, Mrs Chanda said the Patriotic Front government was committed to improving the living standards of people through improved access to social services.

 

Mrs Chanda said government was aware of the many difficulties that social welfare committees were facing in rendering community support services hence its decision to procure bicycles to ease their movements.

 

The District Commissioner urged the recipients of the bicycles to use them for the intended purpose.

 

Mrs Chanda added that her office would not hesitate to withdraw the bicycles from any committee if they would not use them according to the stipulated guidelines.   

 

The Area Coordinating Committees received three (3) bicycles each under Community Welfare Support Committee initiative of the department of Social Welfare in Mungwi.
