Chinsali women commemorate IWD
Chinsali, March 5, 2013, ZANIS… Women from all walks of life in
Chinsali District of Muchinga Province this morning turned up in large
numbers to clean public places.
The women also donated food stuffs which include mealie –
mealie, rice, soap, salt, and sugar as part of celebrations to mark the International
Women’s Day which falls on March 8.
This year’ International Women’s’ Day will be celebrated under the
theme “Gender Agenda : Gaining Momentum”.
Among the various places visited are Chinsali district hospital,
Antonella Transit Home for baby Orphans and Chinsali State Prisons.
Ministry of Education Human Resource Management Officer Joan Ngosa
said women at the ministry of Education have joined their colleagues to
commemorate International Women’s day through various activities.
Ms. Ngosa told Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in
Chinsali today that she is happy with the good number of women who had
turned up to clean various public places saying women must always take
a leading role in cleaning the environment.
And market chairperson at Chinsali central market Brian Bwalya said celebrating
International Women’s Day is a right of every woman .
Mr Bwalya however bemoaned that most women are victims of gender based violence and other
mistreatments because they are ignorant about their rights.
