Govt prioritizes water and sanitation improvements
Mongu, March 02nd, 2013, ZANIS — Western Province Permanent Secretary Emanuel Mwamba says government has prioritized water and sanitation issues and their improvements.
Mr. Mwamba explained that this is because water and sanitation ranks high on government program.
He said the delivering of clean water is very critical to government because most infant mortality rate cases and diseases that hospitals and clinics receive were due to lack of clean water.
He noted that there is need for the public to collaborate with government in its efforts to curb outbreaks of diarrhea, dysentery, cholera and typhoid diseases in the country.
ZANIS reports that the Permanent secretary said this when he toured some schools in the area.
This was ahead of the International Children’s Day of Broadcasting, which falls on 3rd march, every year, under the theme, “Hear our voices, we are the future.”
He said government has an ambitious program in water and sanitation for those living in urban and peri-urban areas, as it is supporting water companies to ensure that they deliver clean-piped water to the local communities.
Mr. Mwamba added that in rural areas, government is digging boreholes and delivering water pumps to ensure that all households have access to clean water.
