Murdered Chanda buried

Monze, March 01, 2013, ZANIS — Hundreds of Monze residents, today, braved the scorching sun to witness the burial of a Patriotic Front(PF) official at Monze cemetery in Southern Province Harrison Chanda who was brutally hacked by suspected United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres in Livingstone on Monday.

And speaking at the burial ceremony, PF Secretary Deputy General Bridget Atanga said the party has lost a great man who he said will be difficult to replace.

The  late Chanda, 55, was today interred at Monze Cemetery and witnessed by both PF and Monze residents.

And speaking during the burial of Mr. Chanda, Defence Minister Geoffrey Mwamba assured Zambians that Government will ensure that the suspects connected to the death are brought to book irrespective of the political inclination.

Mr. Mwamba said the investigative wings of Government will leave no stone un turned in bringing culprits to book to deter those who would be the second offenders in such barbaric acts.

He stated that it is sad and painful to see some UPND cadres slaughter human beings in such a manner within a short period of time due to political hooliganism of their un responsible cadres.

The Defence Minister said the PF do not want to take revenge over the death of their cadres but that the party will continue restraining their cadres from involving themselves in political violence in order to maintain peace in the nation.

And Mr. Mwamba has appealed to the people of Southern Province and Zambians at large to desist from  political violence and condemn these barbaric acts being perpetuated by some suspected opposition UPND cadres in the nation.

Mr. Mwamba expressed that he sympathises with the people of Southern province who have decided to remain in opposition when the rest of the provinces have accepted to work with the government of the day  in a bid to develop the nation.

He further advised the people of Southern province to look for a credible leader of the type  late Underson Kambela Mazoka who will be able to embrace and unite Zambians regardless of their tribe  and colour as opposed to  those ruthless leaders promoting disunity in the nation.

He said President Michael Sata is a president for all Zambians as it can be seen by the recent appointment of two UPND Members of Parliament into the PF Government as deputy Ministers apart from Wilber Simusa and Obvious Mwaliteta who are not Bembas but their own sons.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mwamba has disclosed that the PF administration has penetrated Southern Province as evidenced by the party’s scooping local Government by elections in  Itezhi-Tezhi, Namwala and Siavonga in Southern province respectively.

Mr. Mwamba said the PF is being accepted even in areas where it had no support such as in Mpongwe where it has won the Mpongwe Parliamentary by election held yesterday on the Copperbelt.

He said the PF is also confident of scooping the fourth Livingstone Central  by election without any difficulties because the people of Southern province have accepted to work with the Government of the day.

And speaking at the burial ceremony, PF Secretary Deputy General Bridget Atanga said the party has lost a great man who will be difficult to replace.

Mr. Atanga said this is the Late Mr. Chanda was a hard working PF official who managed to organise the party not only in Monze district but the rest of Southern province.

The PF Secretary Deputy General who spoke in Tonga said in 2008, Mr Chanda was one of the instrumental people in establishing PF structures in Monze district at a difficult time when the province was dominated by the opposition.

She said It was difficult to establish PF structures in Monze district in  Southern Province but that Mr. Chanda and many other PF officials managed to win support from many people who joined the party.

Speaking at the same occasion, Ms Atanga advised youths in the country to heed to President Michael Sata’s advice to desist from engaging  themselves in political violence as they are just used by those un principled leaders for their survivor.

Ms Atanga said Zambia has been a peaceful nation and that it will not allow some selfish individuals to take their law into their own hands.

And United Church of Zambia Church Reverend Alias Sakala said the brutal murder of Mr Chanda should be condemned by all Christians and the rest of the people of this nation.

Reverend Sinkala said it is not biblical to behave in the murder some cadres behaved in the manner they killed the later Mr. Chanda.

He said political parties should learn to exist and working together because Zambia is for all of us and not any other party whether the opposition or the ruling party.
