2012 Confederation of Africa Cup (AFCON) Champions centre-half Stoppila Sunzu has caught the eye of Arsene Wenger.
According to international media, The Metro, the 23-year-old Zambia international, who has also been given the once-over this season by Sunderland and Reading, is set to be one of the Gunners’ first summer signings.
Arsenal scouts were impressed with what they saw of Sunzu in the recent Africa Cup of Nations, and all that remains is to agree a fee with Congo club TP Mazembe.
The Metro says Mazembe’s demand for £4m was what scuppered the deal with Sunderland earlier in the season, but that Arsenal would be happy to stump up the sum for the tough-tackling defender.
Zambia defender Stoppila Sunzu has resolved a contract dispute with TP Mazembe, after he failed to clinch a move to English side Reading.
Sunzu completed a trial with the Premier League club but was prevented from moving after the DR Congo side insisted he honour his contract.

But the Lubumbashi side said his deal with them ran up until 2015.
Despite the Zambian passing a medical with the Royals, the ensuing dispute saw Reading pull out of the deal.
On Saturday, Mazembe held a meeting with the 23-year-old Chipolopolo player, where the contract issue was discussed.
Sunderland are considering a move for Zambian international centre-back Stoppila Sunzu, who saw a moves to Arsenal and Reading collapse in the January transfer window.
Sunzu was set to join Reading last month on a free transfer, but the move was thwarted because his club – Democratic Republic of Congo-based TP Mazembe – claimed he was under contract until 2015 and demanded a £4million transfer fee.
The 23-year-old centre-back has yet to resolve his contractually issues having only just finished international duties with Zambia at the African Cup of Nations in which the defending champions exited at the quarter-final stage.
But he could yet get his dream Premier League move in the summer with Sunderland set to rival Reading for the giant defender’s signature, according to the Sunderland Echo.
