— The Professional Teachers Union of Zambia (PTUZ) and its members across the country have commended Decotex Paint Limited for painting teachers’ houses ahead of the International Women’s Day celebration which falls on 8th march.
In a statement to ZANIS today, PTUZ General Secretary Kangwa Musenga said the painting which is scheduled to start on 26th February will begin with five provinces comprising Lusaka, Western, Central, Copperbelt and Southern Provinces to be extended country wide.
Mr. Musenga said Decotex paint limited has donated 400 litres of paint, roller brushes, drums, wall fillers and sand paper to be used in the painting of teacher’s houses in selected provinces.
He implored other companies to emulate Decotex stating that the company’s donations show that they care about the warfare of teachers.
The PTUZ General Secretary called on teachers in the earmarked provinces to be corporative in the ongoing painting exercise as it provides teachers with an opportunity to have their houses painted.
Mr. Musenga further disclosed that Shoprite Checker’s Group of Companies has also pledged to paint teachers houses in rural areas.
Meanwhile, PTUZ has welcomed the commencement of teacher’s salaries and conditions of service negotiations which will be done between 26th February and 7th March 2013.
Mr. Musenga has since appealed for calm among teachers in the country during the negotiations period.
