Military personnel advised against risky sexual behaviours

Solwezi, Feb 25/13, ZANIS…….The Zambia Army in North-Western Province has urged military personnel in the region to desist from involving themselves in illicit sexual behaviours which contribute to the increase of HIV and AIDS infections.

Zambia Army Regional Commander, Damson Chikutwe, said men and women in uniform should always guard against activities which contribute to the rise of HIV/AIDS infections.

Col Chikutwe said engaging in risk sexual behaviours is a source of concern as it will potentially frustrate efforts being done by various stakeholders in reducing the HIV and AIDS infection rate.

He was speaking during the commemoration of this year’s International Military Sports Council (CISM) at Solwezi Stadium today under the theme “Peace through Sports."

He commended the government for introducing deliberate polices which are aimed at mitigating the effects of HIV and AIDS in communities including in the defense force

Col Chikutwe said the policy is currently being implemented vigorously in all the services as a way of supplementing the efforts of government in fighting the pandemic.

Col Chikutwe said the CISM family has a membership of 133 countries worldwide whose military institutions have joined hands to support peace through sports.

CISM was founded on February 18, 1948, and is one of the largest multidisciplinary organizations in the world.
