Kalulushi council receives funds for drainage clearing

—The Kalulushi Municipal Council has received KR334 000 meant for emergency drainage clearing from the Ministry of Local Government and Housing.

Kalulushi Municipal Council Public Relations Officer Kangwa Muma told ZANIS in an interview today that the programme will be run in two phases and the first phase is expected to run for 90 days.

Mr Muma disclosed that so far the council has done Luapula, Chavuma and Magoye road drainages and has engaged over 200 youths from the district to do the work.

He said that by the end of the program the council is expected to have received KR669 000.

Mr Muma however, appealed to the residents of Kalulushi not to throw litter in an designated places as this would affect the entire system.

He said that council was doing a lot to clear the drainages because good drainages would prolong the lifespan of the roads in the district.

He said the scope of works included excavation of drainages, clearing of blocked drainages, an blocking of culverts and loading of all excavated materials from the drainages.
