Council of Ministers conference on TAZARA closes
Lusaka, February 20, ZANIS—-The Council of Ministers conference on TAZARA ended this afternoon with a call to the two shareholding governments to mobilize funds for revamping the operations of TAZARA services.
Speaking to the Press shortly after the closure of the conference, Tanzanian Minister of Transport Science and Technology Harrison Mwakyembe disclosed that the Council of Ministers conference was convened to discuss the challenges affecting the operations of TAZARA and coming up with a plan to rejuvenate the operations of ailing TAZARA.
And Dr Mwakyembe has praised President Michael Sata for showing commitment towards the revamping of TAZARA operations.
He said the 45 billion kwacha allocated in the 2012 budget for TAZARA is a clear demonstration that President Sata was committed to seeing TAZARA performs.
He revealed that the Tanzanian government has also allocated two (20) million Untied States dollars in its budget.
Meanwhile Minister of Transport, Works, Supply and Communications Christopher Yaluma says TAZARA has not been performing hence the reason the Council of Ministers conference was convened.
Mr Yaluma says the Council of Ministers conference want to we see TARAZA starts performing to its expectations.
He cited recapitalization and lobbying of foreign financers as one of the measures to be put in place aimed at revamping TAZARA.
