Teenage mother , her baby dies on the spot in Mumbwa District
Mumbwa, February 11, 2013, ZANIS — A 16 years old mother died on the spot with her 7 months old baby after being hit by a speeding vehicle.
Mumbwa district hospital medical superintendent Dr Reward Sibanda confirmed to ZANIS in an interview in Mumbwa today.
Dr. Sibanda said that the two bodies were brought in dead at 22:00hours last night.
He explained that the accident happened about 4km west of Mumbwa boma along Lusaka-Mongu road.
This was after a Lusaka based driver who was driving a Honda Civic of registration no.7259 knocked her down from behind.
He disclosed that the mother died of bilateral open fractures on both lower limbs while the child died of head injuries.
Police sources also confirmed the accident and named the driver as Philip Mulenga of Kabanana who has since been arrested and charged for causing death by dangerous driving.
The bodies of the duo are lying in Mumbwa district hospital mortuary.
Recently, over 50 people have died in a road traffic accident that occurred on the Great North Road.
The accident happened around 07 hours in Chibombo district after a 70 sitter Post bus heading to Lusaka from Ndola collided with a truck.
The truck first hit into a Land cruiser losing control in the process before colliding with the bus.
Police spokesperson Elizabeth Kanjela confirmed the development to the local media.
