—-A one-year-nine-months old baby has been shot dead while her mother is nursing a bullet wound in the neck.
Police Public Relations Officer, Elizabeth Kanjela said the incident happened yesterday on 13th February, 2013 between 18:30 hours and 19:00 hours in SOS Compound behind Forestry Department in Lusaka.
Facts of the matter are that, Thandiwe Banda of SOS Compound met her sister- in-law with her baby 20 meters away from their house and got the baby from her and when they were entering the house, a criminal by passed the sister- in- law and shot Thandiwe in the neck and in the process the baby was shot in the abdomen and died on the spot.
Ms Kanjela said the victim is in the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) receiving treatment while the body of the deceased is in the same Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem and burial.
The police spokesperson said a pistol is believed to have been used in the act and the criminal is reported to be on the run.
Ms Kanjela has since appealed to members of the public with any information that could lead to the arrest of the criminal to report to the nearest police station.
