CLTS to help districts formulate sanitation plans
Choma, February 12, ZANIS – The Community Led Total Sanitation Programme (CLTS) says it is working on providing technical support to some districts to formulate total sanitation plans.
CLTS National Coordinator Leonard Mukosha says some districts are operating without a sanitation plan thereby making it difficult for donors to assist them.
He told ZANIS in Choma today that the organization will also strengthen capacity of the Rural Water and Sanitation Units under local authorities in monitoring and evaluation.
“This year, we will concentrate on monitoring and evaluation in order to help local authorities in various districts across the country to come up with total sanitation work plans that are currently none existent,” he said.
Mr. Mukosha also observed that most council’s in the country do not have their own sanitation work plan hence the need for CLTS to concentrate on building capacity.
He says the objective is to have about Three (3) million people that do not have proper sanitation in Zambia have access to latrines and water adding that districts should become Open Defecation Free (ODF) by 2015.
