—Western Province Permanent Secretary, Emmanuel Mwamba, has warned timber dealers in the province against ferrying new loads of timber from the forest into the markets.
Mr Mwamba said government will not take it lightly anyone found flouting the law, saying government was aware that new timber is currently being offloaded on the markets.
He was speaking in Mongu over the weekend when he met all timber dealers from all markets in the district.
The PS said government understands the hardships that people depending on timber are going through, hence the initiative to encourage the community to invest in tree planting.
Mr Mwamba has since directed the department of forest in conjunction with the police to put up check points on strategic areas to ensure that no new timber is brought on the market.
