—–Local Government and Housing Deputy Minister, Forrie Tembo, is disappointed with Shang’ombo District Council for allegedly misusing the K1 billion (KR1 million) for construction of ten low cost houses.
Mr Tembo said he was sad that Shang’ombo District Council constructed only six out of ten low cost housing units as budgeted for.
He observed that the K1 billion should have sufficed to complete all the ten houses.
Mr Tembo said he will send auditors to Shang’ombo to establish whether there was misappropriation of funds at the local authority.
However, Mr Tembo disclosed that he would ensure that he gives Shang’ombo District a vehicle to improve service delivery.
Earlier Deputy Council secretary, Milton Sakala, complained to the deputy minister that the grant from government the council was receiving is not enough to meet the needs of the district.
Mr Sakala said the Council was also facing challenges of levy collection due the lack of infrastructure in the area.
