Pilot Dies in Plane Crash
Mwinilunga, March 5, 2018 — A 65 year old pilot has died on the spot after a two seater plane he was flying crash landed at Kawiku air strip in Mwinilunga district in Northwestern province .
Police Public Relations officer Esther Katongo who confirmed the incident in a statement to ZANIS today identified the deceased as Charles Rea a Zambian by birth and Irish by origin who was flying a two seater plane number 9 JYR V.
Mrs. Katongo said the incident happened today at 08:30 hours at Kawiku air strip adding that the plane was reported to have crashed after the Pilot lost control whilst on the runway before taking off, flew at 50 metres and crash on the ground.
She said the pilot died on the spot after sustaining head injuries and the body has since been retrieved from the scene and taken to Kalene Mission hospital mortuary.
The late Charles Rea was a prominent business man who was the proprietor of the Zangamenu Mini hydro power station which supplies power to Ikelenge district and owned other various economic business investments in Mwinilunga.
