The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has seized eight motor vehicles in Kasama that were imported into the country and registered with the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) using forged ZRA customs documents.
The seizure comes after investigations on allegations of corruption involving a number of motor vehicles imported from Japan into Zambia without paying customs and excise duty due to the Zambia Revenue Authority.
ZRA Corporate Communications Manager Oliver Nzala said in a statement that the authority will collect the taxes due on the vehicles and take necessary action against the owners for tax evasion and against ZRA officers who facilitated their registration using forged documents.
Mr. Nzala has since called upon members of the public whose vehicles do not do have the right documentation to go to the Authority and report such cases or risk their vehicles being confiscated and face prosecution.
He added that the Authority has intensified its enforcement activities countrywide in order to curb cases of smuggling and tax evasion.
