Vice President Inonge Wina has apologized to Komboni Radio Director Lesa Kasoma Nyirenda who was last week brutally beaten and undressed by Police officers who were guarding the radio station following its closure by the Independent Broadcasting Authority.

Last week in Parliament, Ms Wina justified the police action saying Mrs Nyirenda assaulted the officers, stating that individuals who want to break the law with impunity will be arrested or punished for the crimes they commit.

But during the vice president’s question time in Parliament this morning, Ms Wina said she was not well informed about the incident at Komboni radio last week when she responded to the question.

She says after collecting more information on the incident, she established that the actions of police officers went beyond their work.

Ms Wina says what Mrs Nyirenda went through at the hands of the police officers was not necessary.

And Ms Wina says President Edgar Lungu does not order police to beat up fellow politicians.

She says whenever police use excessive force President Lungu is never involved.

Ms Wina states that at time the President has castigated the Inspector General of Police for the overzealousness of some his officers who go beyond the limit of their work.

Meanwhile the vice president says the national day of prayer and fasting provides an opportunity for political leaders to come together and dialogue over the misunderstanding that divide them and divide the country.

Ms Wina says the country has not gone to war because of elections.
