UPND presidential candidate in the just ended elections Hakainde Hichilema has petitioned the declaration of President Edgar Lungu as winner of the presidential election.

President Edgar Lungu was declared as winner of the August 11 elections by Electoral Commission of Zambia Chairperson and presidential election returning officer, Justice Esau Chulu after securing 50.35% of the total valid votes cast.

UPND Spokesperson Charles Kakoma has told QFM in an interview that the party has gathered enough evidence to prove that the PF rigged the elections.

He says the party has contended in its petition that President Lungu was fraudulently elected and therefore his election must be nullified.

Mr Kakoma says the UPND is also asking the court to order for a recount of the total votes cast across the country due to numerous irregularities.

He says party is hopeful that the Constitutional Court will give a fair judgment in the matter.

The Constitutional Court will now have to hear the petition within 14 days.
