Four perish in Great North road accident

FOUR people have died on the spot in a road traffic accident which happened last evening (Sunday) on the Great North Road.
Police Deputy Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga in a statement says the accident involving four vehicles happened around 21:00 hours at Vuba area along the Kabwe Kapiri -Mposhi road.

Mr. Hamoonga says the accident involved a Freightliner truck and trailer registration number ACK 3777/ACP 9064T which was being driven by unknown driver who is on the run, a Toyota Land Cruiser registration number ZP 2163B which was being driven by Sylvester Zulu of Muchinga Police Division with six passengers on board, a Volvo truck registration Rae-Hamoonganumber BCA 428 and trailer registration BCA 4148T driven by Jacob Simuchimba aged 29 of Nakonde and had four passengers on board and the fourth vehicle was a Toyota Corolla registration number ABH 6314 driven by Ido Chisenga aged 30 and had four passengers on board.

He explains that accident occurred when the driver of the freightliner truck reversed negligently, hence the collision with the Toyota Land cruiser which was coming from behind, and in the process the Volvo truck over turned to the extreme right as the driver was avoiding to hit the first motor vehicle, while the fourth motor vehicle a Corolla passed under the trailer of the Freightliner truck.

Mr. Hamoonga says the deceased have been identified as Sikota Situmbeko of Muchinga Police Division, Ireen Mukuka, Munide Nyirende Zulu and a juvenile Daliso Zulu aged 12 year old.
The deceased are lying in Kabwe General Hospital awaiting postmortem.
