THE High Court has stopped an MMD faction led by former Lunte member of Parliament Felix Mutati from holding a convention in Kabwe to elect a new party president.
Mr Justice Eddie Sikazwe yesterday granted MMD deputy secretary general Winnie Zaloumis an injunction restraining the Mutati-led faction from going ahead with the convention.
The others who have been restrained are national secretary Mwansa Mbulakulima, spokesperson Raphael Nakacinda and George Kangwa, all of whom are serving suspensions.
Ms Zaloumis said in a statement of claim filed in the High Court that Mr Mutati and three others are expelled and suspended members of the MMD and that they have no authority to represent the former ruling party.
“The defendants have no powers, authority or rights to work or carry out any responsibility as national secretary or any other position until charges levelled against them are disposed of,” she said.
