THE UPND has settled for former vice-president Dr Guy Scott’s wife Charlotte as its candidate for the Lusaka Central parliamentary seat.

According to sources in the UPND, Dr Scott did not express willingness to recontest his seat, but that his wife applied and she was the favourite for adoption.

“She was an instant favourite and although the adoption process is not yet complete, I can tell you that we have settled for her because we feel she is a strong candidate and we are sure that she will deliver for Lusaka Central because her husband knows all the corners,” said the sources.

“To be honest, even the husband is eager to campaign for her and it will be a battle between women front-runners, seeing that PF is also fielding Margaret Mwanakatwe. As UPND, we also think she (Mwanakatwe) will be an easy target to beat.”

When contacted for a comment, Charlotte said it would be a “great honour” to contest the seat.

“When it is announced, I will be delighted to make a comment but if my application was successful, it would be a great honour,” Charlotte said.

Asked what her priority areas would be if elected Lusaka Central member of parliament, Charlotte said,

“I think it will be premature for me to comment until I have some official notification. If it is positive, then we can talk about this, otherwise it would be premature.”

And in a separate interview, Dr Scott said he was proud of his wife.

“Well, I am very proud of her, but that’s all I can say if that story is straight. I am very happy to hear it and I know she will do an excellent job if the information is correct,” said Dr Scott.
