A UNIVERSITY of Zambia natural sciences lecturer accused of causing the death of Greenford Mucheleng’anga and Elias Chalwe has pleaded not guilty to two counts of manslaughter.

Dr. Gershom Chishimba denied two murder charges when he appeared before Lusaka High Court Judge Eddie Sikazwe.
He told the court that he understood the two charges but denied committing the offences.
Dr Chishimba is expected to open his defence on May 16.
Dr Chishimba was a fortnight ago committed to the High Court after the State prosecutor Febby Kalala informed the court that she had received instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). He had been appearing before Lusaka Magistrate Jennifer

Bwalya for mention awaiting instructions from the DDP chambers. Ms Bwalya read out the charges of two counts of manslaughter to Dr. Chishimba and was asked whether he had understood the charges levelled against him and he responded in the affirmative. Following the explanation of the charges, Dr Chishimba could not proceed to take plea because the matter could only be tried in the High Court.
It is alleged in the first count that Dr Chishimba on December 27, 2013 in Lusaka, unlawfully caused the death of Mr Mucheleng’anga.
The allegation in the second count is that Dr Chishimba on the material day caused the death of Elias Chalwe
