Mpombo dissolves his party, joins UPND

George Mpombo has dissolved his People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the opposition UPND.

Announcing his decision at a media briefing in Lusaka on Friday, Dr Mpombo said the UPND is the only party capable of dislodging the PF from power.

He said he has also been inspired by the leadership of HH. He vowed to campaign and ensure the UPND wins the August 11 general election.

Dr. Mpombo a former Defence Minister under President Mwanawasa said though he has a Grade 12 certified certificate he will not be seeking parliamentary election. He said he will instead dedicate his time to campaign for the party to form government.

Dr Mpombo said he is rejoining the UPND as he was a member before joining the MMD.

He is also a former Member of parliament for Kafulafuta in Ndola rural on the Copperbelt province.

In the 2015 presidential election Dr Mpombo campaigned for the incumbent president Edgar Lungu.

Receiving Dr Mpombo, HH embraced him and said he was humbled by the gesture. He said Zambians must unite under the UPND and vote out the PF in the coming elections for economic liberation.
