FORMER Football Association of Zambia (FAZ)) committee members have condemned the drama that has erupted in the aftermath of a mysterious 22-man Chipolopolo team list for this June’s COSAFA Senior Challenge Cup.
Former FAZ vice-president Emmanuel Munaile as well as two other past committee members, Henschel Chitembeya and Keagan Chipango all said what was happening was not unacceptable.

A COSAFA team list of 22 local players was released on Tuesday with the omission of Christopher Katongo, Isaac Chansa, Christopher Munthali and Mwape Mwelwa with Chipolopolo coach George Lwandamina distancing himself from the list stating that he has not made a COSAFA team list yet and wondered why some names were missing.
Chipolopolo stand-in team manager Stanley Kaseko and Sam Phiri, who was acting general secretary in place of Katongo Kabungo, also expressed shock at the release of an erroneous COSAFA squad.

Munaile said the selection of players should be the preserve of the coach and that there should be consultation between the coach and manager before release of the team list.
Munaile said FAZ should get to the bottom of the issue to avoid such an incident recurring in the future.

“Selection of the team should be done by the coach and if the team list is to be released, let there be consultation between coach and team manager.
Also adding his voice was Chitembeya who described the team list as a mystery which makes for sad reading.
Chitembeya said this only showed that FAZ was not up to scratch and needed to put their house in order quickly.

He said these events were more the reason a substantive general secretary should be employed immediately to avoid further confusion.
“This makes sad reading, it looks like the new regime is not yet up to scratch. That’s why we need a complete overhaul of people that were in the old regime. The new executive needs to find their feet,” Chitembeya said.

He said there have been a number of lapses and the executive should be on top of things to avoid sloppiness and that the FAZ needs a functional technical committee.
And Keagan Chipango said the source of the list should be established because such a development can demoralise the players that were erroneously omitted.
