The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) is saddened by the death of five people in a road traffic accident along the Kabwe – Kapiri Mposhi road involving a Mazhandu Family Bus services bus.

Preliminary investigations on the cause of the accident conducted by RTSA have revealed that the driver of the motor vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, due to speeding.
According to one of the eye witnesses, the driver of the bus, Kasheka Shadrick Kabange, was speeding, failed to negotiate a curve and lost control thereby causing the bus to slide on the road.
The driver is licensed.

Further investigations showed that the section of the road where the accident occurred is a curvy stretch with a speed limit of 80km/h and the road is clearly marked and that the road is smooth. However, the road was wet as it was raining the time the road accidents happened.

RTSA Senior Manager – Public Relations, Mr Frederick Mubanga said, “we are saddened by the loss of lives through an accident and urge all motorist to exercise maximum patience on the roads and avoid over speeding.”

Mr Mubanga added that following a spate of road traffic accidents by Mazhandu Family Bus Services in the recent past, the Agency will be summoning the operator to show cause why the Road Service License (RSL) should not be suspended.
