The Zambezi River Authority has written to the Zambia Environmental Management Agency -ZEMA- for permission to carry out rehabilitation works on the Kariba Dam.
This is in line with the Environment Management Act which requires for the issuance of an Environmental Impact Assessment Report before works can be conducted.
ZEMA Spokesperson Ireen Lungu says the agency has since convened a public hearing to be held in Siavonga this Friday.
She said the public hearing will give an opportunity to discuss measures of addressing negative effects such as flooding.
Ms Lungu was speaking in an interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka.
