DEC arrests Chingangu

The Drug Enforcement Commission -DEC- has arrested former Chipata Municipal council Town Clerk Ekan Chingangu for alleged misappropriation of 1-Million Kwacha.

Mr. Chingangu has been charged with willful failure to comply with applicable procedure relating to management of public funds and obtaining pecuniary advantage by false presence contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

It is alleged that Mr. Chingangu as Chipata Town Clerk on dates unknown but between August, 2012 and January, 2014 together with the Director of Finance Kate Tembo, Former Director of Engineering Andrew Zulu and Former Director Administration Mwape Katemwe

and other persons unknown did engage in themselves in dishonest conduct in which funds for the municipality were misappropriated.

Investigations by the DEC revealed that Chingangu and the others did misappropriate 1-Million Kwacha capital grant meant for infrastructure development at the Chipata Civic center by paying themselves salaries beyond the new harmonized salaries.

Mr. Chingangu has since been released on Police Bond and is expected to appear in court soon.

This is contained in a statement released to ZNBC news by DEC public relations officer Theresa Katongo.
