A THIRTY-SEVEN-YEAR-OLD man of Chavuma District has allegedly been beaten to death over a K600 debt that he failed to repay.
The assailants allegedly beat up the victim after their effort to recover the debt failed.
Chavuma District Commissioner Lawrence Kayumba, who confirmed the incident that happened at the weekend on the west bank of the Zambezi River, said the suspects tried to conceal the victim’s death by arranging for a quick and quiet burial.
Mr Kayumba, who could not name the victim, said police had since picked up two suspects in connection with the murder.
He said the suspects had gone to recover their money from the victim and when it was apparent that their effort was in vain, they beat him up.
“Upon realising that the victim had died, the suspects entered into a negotiation for compensation with the deceased’s relatives and they agreed to bury quietly and have the murder concealed,” he said.
Mr Kayumba said the matter was only reported to the Police by a concerned resident who had known of the conspiracy.
