Lusambo awaits verdict on assault charge

JUDGMENT in a case in which former MMD national secretary Major Richard Kachingwe was allegedly assaulted by former MMD die-hard youth wing coordinator Bowman Lusambo and four others, has been adjourned by the Lusaka Magistrates Court.
The matter was adjourned to today after the State informed the court that one of the accused, Scorpion Kadobi, was not before court.
This is in a case in which four MMD cadres are accused of assaulting Major Kachingwe, Mr Gregory Chifire and Mr Patrick Kamfumukache.
Particulars of the offence are that Lusambo, 35, of house no. 8240 Chamba Valley, Chiwele Maimisa, 44, of house no. 10 Chilenje South, Kadobi, 44, of house no. 89 Lusaka West and Watson Mtonga of Mtendere township on December 1, 2012, jointly and while acting together with other persons unknown, assaulted Major Kachingwe , Mr Chifire and Mr Kamfumukache.
The quartet pleaded not guilty to three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and told the court that the allegations levelled against them were false.
The offence is alleged to have been committed at the offices of MMD secretariat in Lusaka.
