THE Solwezi Municipal Council has suspended Solwezi Central UPND member of parliament Dawson Kafwaya for six months for breach of conduct.

Acting mayor Brian Kajoba confirmed the suspension of Kafwaya, who is also North-Western Province minister, saying the council made the resolution on Monday.

“The meeting on Monday resolved that in compliance with local government Act Cap 281, working together with Statutory Instrument number 40 of 1995, honourable Dawson Kafwaya, member of parliament Solwezi Central, in his capacity as a member of the Solwezi Municipal Council, be suspended from discharging the functions of the membership of the municipal council for six months with immediate effect for breach of the local government councilors’ conduct. When you are a member and you speak against the council, that amounts to breach. He holds the constituency so for the time being, he will not be allowed to administer any Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and come to the council for any deliberations. That is what it means. But he will remain minister for North Western Province,” said Kajoba.

Kafwaya could not comment on his suspension as his mobile phone was unreacheable by press time.
