OVER 400 children have been withdrawn from schools by their parents and guardians mainly to assist in household income generating ventures in Mansa’s Bahati constituency.

This came to light in a briefing by authorities at Kasanse Primary School and Chibinde Community School to Member of Parliament Harry Kalaba.
Mr Kalaba learnt that there is an increasing number of boys who are stopping school to do fishing, while some girls are being forced into marriage.
He warned parents and guardians of such children that they risk being prosecuted for forcing underage children into the labour market and marriage.
“It’s not correct that parents should allow their children as young as five years old to go and do fishing. We are killing ourselves because these things have got ramifications,” Mr Kalaba told community members at Chibinde Community School.
