Six hundred and forty one (641) people died in 471 fatal road traffic accidents of the 8,839 accidents recorded in the third quarter of 2015.
The 8,839 road traffic accidents recorded during the third quarter represents an increase of 573 accidents compared to the 8,266 recorded in 2014 during the same period.
Police Spokesperson Charity Munganga-Chanda in a statement to QFM News says Lusaka recorded the highest number of deaths, followed by Central and Copperbelt Provinces which had 122, 84 and 68 respectively.

She says Northern and Western Provinces recorded the lowest number of deaths.
Ms. Chanda says when compared to the third quarter of 2014, the number of people who lost their lives in 2015 increased from 508 to 641.
She says the number of those with serious and slight injuries also increased from 1,497 to 1,943 and 1,871 to 2,110 respectively.
Ms. Chanda states that most of the accidents on the Zambian roads are attributed to human error while Fridays and Saturdays continue to be leading days recording high numbers of accidents with most of them happening between 18:00 hrs and 20:00 hours.
